Leafs winger Max Domi does something extremely classy following the Leafs' win in Washington
Max Domi's first half was not exactly what many had envisioned when the Leafs signed him to a 1-year deal worth $3M. However, in his second half of the season, Domi has really come alive, culminating in a 4-assist game last night, riding shotgun with Tyler Bertuzzi and Auston Matthews on the top line.
Last night's game in Washington was Domi's best as a Leaf. His performance on the top line have many wondering if Sheldon Keefe should simply leave the trio together, even once Mitch Marner returns to action from his high-ankle sprain.
With all of the noise surrounding Domi in the last 14 hours or so, the 29-year-old 2nd generation Leaf could have made it all about himself during his post-game media availability with Sportsnet's Shawn McKenzie. However, Domi did the exact opposite, choosing to use his time in front of the camera to pay his respects to Chris Simon and his family following his passing earlier this week.
"First of all, I just said it on TNT out there, but before we get into any of the stuff about the game, a big shout out to the Simon family and just letting them know that we're all thinking of them during this difficult time. What Chris did in his career is remarkable, doing that job, winning a Stanley Cup and being a part of a special team like that is amazing. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family." - Domi starts off his media availability by paying his respects to Chris Simon and his family
Domi, being the son of the legendary Tie Domi, knows exactly how important the role of an enforcer can be and just how respected and loved those guys are in the locker room. Domi was all class with how he handled the first question, making the night more about remembering and honouring Chris Simon, just like both teams did prior to the start of the game in Washington, where Simon spent 7 seasons of his career. I'm sure the entire Simon family appreciated Domi using the spotlight that was placed on him after the game to honour Chris and his legacy following his tragic passing.
