Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews spoke with the media on Saturday regarding his injury and how he has been feeling over these past weeks.

Following a thrilling come from behind victory on Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils, it seems as though superstar Auston Matthews has recovered from much of what was ailing him all season.

Matthews scored two goals in the win, including a highlight-reel snipe. The performance came after Matthews addressed the media during a three-game losing streak, emphasizing that every team faces adversity.

Matthews' point total now stands at 17 goals and 17 assists, an impressive feat, especially considering the Maple Leafs have adopted Berube's more defensive-focused style of play.

In the article 'It's Been Pretty Good Since I've Been Back': Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews Feeling Like Himself Since Return From Injury, Berube comments on Matthews' play since his return.

As per David Alter on X:

"Obviously he has games where maybe he's not at his best. But I'm noticing an improvement from game to game with his quickness and speed. And that's really important for me," Berube said.

Matthews also shared his own assessment, stating that he's feeling much better on the ice.

"It's been steady. I've been feeling good," Matthews said. "I think it's been pretty good since I've been back. I've been feeling better and better every night. So, you know, I just want to keep that going."

Berube, no stranger to media interactions, was also recently asked about the power play. He was quick to defend it, especially since Matthews scored a power play goal in the win against the Devils.

Next up, Matthews and the Maple Leafs will face their rivals, the Montreal Canadiens, in what promises to be an exciting matchup on Hockey Night in Canada. This one is expected to be a chippy affair, so it remains to be seen whether Matthews will see his full workload, or if Berube will attempt to limit his minutes to keep him healthy.
