The Toronto Maple Leafs have selected their starting goaltender ahead of a key matchup against the middling New York Rangers.

With the Toronto Maple Leafs visiting the Big Apple to face off against the New York Rangers, head coach Craig Berube is breaking up the alternating pattern of starting goaltenders as he is going back to Anthony Stolarz.
Stolarz and Joseph Woll had been alternating starts since the former's return to the lineup after a lengthy absence. Coming out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break, the Leafs had a back-to-back set that was split between both netminders before Stolarz got the game against Boston on Tuesday.
He stopped 32 of 36 shots en route to his 12th win of the season as the Maple Leafs came out victorious in overtime by a score of 5-4. It's an interesting choice to say the least considering Berube had previously mentioned how his goaltenders were likely to alternate starts in the final stretch run.
Nevertheless, the Leafs do have a back-to-back set coming up on Sunday and Monday when they play Pittsburgh and San Jose, so there might not be too much behind this move, but it's still interesting that he is going back to Stolarz after a few days off.
Stolarz has been nothing short of brilliant for the Maple Leafs this year as he's posted a 12-5-2 record to go along with a 2.23 GAA, and a .926 SV% alongside 1 shutout. His play has made things very easy for Berube and company to send out whichever goaltender on any given night and expect a solid performance.
The hulking goaltender has won his last 4 starts dating back to before he got injured but since his return he's gone 3-0-0 with a .918 SV% while allowing just 8 goals.
It's hard to tell which Rangers team will show up with how their season has gone but they have won consecutive games entering tonight and still possess a real threat with the likes of Artemi Panarin, J.T. Miller, and Igor Shesterkin.
The Maple Leafs will be looking to extend their winning streak to 4 games and to leap frog the Florida Panthers once again for top spot in the Atlantic Division. The Tampa Bay Lightning also pose a threat as they sit 2 points back of Toronto, which makes every game crucial at this juncture of the season.
