Nick Robertson Addresses the Upcoming Trade Deadline and his Earlier Request to Leave the Maple Leafs

After requesting a trade away from the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer, Nick Robertson reveals his plans and his hopes for the upcoming trade deadline.
At the beginning of last summer's NHL free agency, it looked like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Nick Robertson would be parting ways as he requested a trade and said he would not sign a new deal with the team as a restricted free agent.
Robertson eventually signed a one-year deal with the team, and it seems as though his desire to leave the Maple Leafs has vanished.
In an interview with Sportsnet, Robertson said he's not fretting the trade deadline, and is very happy where he is.
"I want to be here, so I'm fine. Yeah, I don't think about that stuff. I've been worried about my day off tomorrow, doing what I got to do."
Robertson's initial request came after being a healthy scratch for game 7 of the first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Boston Bruins in 2024.
However, he's worked hard all season to show he belongs in the lineup, and is buying into Craig Berube's coaching system.
"Last year, the most I played was 20 games (in a row), then I got scratched, shifting in and out. I hate that. So, I made a decision that I want to play every single game. Like I said, back to the desperation thing, I want to be in the lineup every game. I want to be an impactful player. And so far, it's been working. Chief has a different style, and I've adapted to it."
Robertson is making the most of the 12 to 13 minutes of ice time he's receiving each game, and Berube told reporters as long as Robertson keeps doing what he's currently doing, he'll see his ice-time and his role with the Leafs increase.
