The Maple Leafs made a pair of roster moves on Friday, placing Max Pacioretty on injured reserve and recalling a defenseman from the Toronto Marlies.

On the second day of practice after the 4 Nations break, Max Pacioretty left practice after tweaking something.
Ahead of last Saturday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Leafs confirmed Pacioretty would miss at least the first two games back, but after being placed on IR on Friday, he will now miss his fourth consecutive game.
After joining the Leafs on a one-year deal at the end of training camp, Pacioretty has struggled to stay healthy. The 26-year-old has only skated in 37 of the club's 58 games so far tallying just 5 goals and 13 points.
In a corresponding move, the Leafs recalled Marshall Rifai from the Marlies in light of Tuesday's shoulder injury suffered by Chris Tanev.
According to Craig Berube, who made an appearance on 'Real Kyper and Bourne' Wednesday, Tanev isn't expected to be out for an extended period of time.
Adding Rifai, however, gives Berube an added option on the blueline if he wants to swap out Simon Benoit, Conor Timmins or Philippe Myers, who is expected to draw in to the lineup Friday in place of the 35-year-old Tanev.
The good news is that Pacioretty did participate in Friday's morning skate, so he should not be out for much longer.
