Cavallin was brought into the fold by the Maple Leafs two years ago when he initially signed a 2-year AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies. Today he has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way AHL contract with the Laval Rocket.
When brought into the fold by the Maple Leafs, the intention was always for Cavallin to start in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers due to the immense depth the Maple Leafs had in between the pipes all throughout the organization.
Cavallin played in 35 games for the Growlers in 2022-23, where he posted a very strong 24-9-1 record with a 2.56 G.A.A. and a .917 SV%. He followed that up last year with a 20-8-3 record, a 2.95 G.A.A., and a .915 SV% in 31 games in the ECHL as well as a 3-4-2 record and a .884 SV% in 9 games for the Marlies in the AHL.
The undrafted, 23-year-old goaltender, played his junior hockey with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL, where he struggled out of the gates with a 15-39-1 record in his first two years compared to the 47-18-5 record he compiled in his last 2 seasons - including a 36-14-4 record in 2021-22.
He now joins the Canadiens' AHL affiliate in the Rocket, where he will look to gain a roster spot in 2024-25 and make some headway in his professional career.
