The Toronto Maple Leafs are right back on the ice after a 2-0 defeat at the Minnesota Wild last night as they make their first visit to the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
The Leafs beat up on the Red Wings 6-3 back in mid-October with goals from Zach Hyman, William Nylander, Auston Matthews, Nazem Kadri, Morgan Rielly and Connor Brown. Curtis McElhinney made 30 saves in the victory.
McElhinney is expected to start again tonight with Frederik Andersen playing in St. Paul last night. McElhinney was fantastic in his last outing with a 41 save shutout of the Edmonton Oilers last Sunday.
Goaltending has not been the issue for the Maple Leafs of late. They were shutout for the first time all season last night and have scored two or fewer goals in five of their last six games. The Leafs offense could get a boost tonight facing the Red Wings, who have given up 3.25 goals per game, the sixth most in the NHL.
