The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost another goaltender from their pipeline, this time to the Philadelphia Flyers, who have signed Keith Petruzzelli to an AHL contract.
Amid uncertainty surrounding 2021 third-round pick and goaltender Alexei Kolosov, the Flyers have signed former Marlies goaltender Keith Petruzzelli to an AHL contract for the 2024-2025 season. The 2017 third-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings struggled last season in 17 games with the Marlies, posting a 6-8-2 record with a 3.55 GAA and .867 SV% in 17 games.
According to Tony Androckitis, the signing of Petruzzelli is an insurance move as the Flyers are unsure as to whether or not Kolosov will return to the organization after a turbulent season in the AHL that saw him placed in a hotel by himself.
"They put him in the hotel by himself & he felt isolated, especially since his English isn't great," a source told Androckitis.
In 47 games over 3 seasons for the Marlies, Petruzzelli has struggled to find consistent playing time and could be in for another battle for playing time with the Flyers having Cal Petersen and Parker Gahagen also looking to secure playing time in the AHL.
