With Maple Leafs fans on the edge of their seats awaiting news on goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who left last night's game against the Anaheim Ducks after the first period with an injury, the team has made a move that has raised some significant concern about the health of their goaltender.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, while the Maple Leafs are still waiting for news on Stolarz, the decision has been made to recall netminder Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies.
It's certainly not a good sign for Stolarz, who was replaced by Joseph Woll in last night's 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
It's not exactly clear what happened to him, but he seemed to be in some discomfort following a first period save.
Max Pacioretty's two-goal, three-point night was unfortunately overshadowed by Stolarz's injury.
And, while Joseph Woll put on a fantastic performance in the win, a long-term injury for Stolarz would definitely put the Maple Leafs' goaltending depth to the test.
We have to wait a bit longer for news on Stolarz's injury, but in the meantime, there is sure to be plenty of concern.
While the sample size is small, Dennis Hildeby's two games in the NHL this season did not produce great results, and his record in the AHL for 2024-25 is 2-2-2, with a 2.73 goals against average, and a .897 save percentage.
