Cowan, a standout prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs, has made significant waves in the OHL after being cut from the Leafs' opening day roster following training camp. The 2024-25 OHL season has started strong for Cowan, who continues to make history. According to Nick Barden on X:
Cowan is quickly becoming one of the most decorated CHL players, as he has notably surpassed the legendary Sidney Crosby's 37-game point streak from his time with the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL, as well as 2023 first overall draft pick Connor Bedard's 35-game streak in the WHL. He now trails only Alexander Radulov's all-time CHL record of 50 consecutive games with at least 1 point. It's clear that he is well on his way to accomplishing this incredible milestone.
Last season, Cowan had an exceptional year with the London Knights, leading them to an OHL championship. He earned OHL MVP honors for both the regular season and playoffs, accumulating 96 points in 54 regular season games and 34 points in 18 playoff games.
Although Cowan was very close to making the NHL this season, his impressive start with the London Knights is sure to accelerate his path to a successful NHL career. Unfortunately, he'll have to wait another year, as an OHL player cannot return to his NHL club during the season once he has been sent down.
