"The Toronto Maple Leafs made an interesting move this morning by recalling defenseman Travis Dermott from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The team sent Martin Marincin back down to the Marlies to make room for Dermott. For those of you hoping to see the 21-year-old blue liner make his NHL debut against the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow will be disappointed. It appears that Mike Babcock will ease him into the lineup as Dermott was the extra defenseman during today's morning. If you spend more than two minutes reading what Maple Leafs fans have to say on social media, many want to see Dermott play ahead of Roman Polak and for good reason. As Jonas Siegel of The Athletic points out below, the third pairing of Polak and Andreas Borgman have been less than of late. Dermot has two goals and 15 assists in 26 games for the Marlies. He has also racked up 34 penalty minutes and a +15 goal differential.
Last five games for Leafs D in terms of possession: Gardiner: 49.4 Hainsey: 48.4 Rielly: 48.1 Carrick: 44.5 Marincin: 41.6 Borgman: 35.7 Polak: 35.5 — Jonas Siegel (@jonassiegel) January 5, 2018
