If you're going to get pointers from someone on something, you may as well get it from one of the best. That's exactly what happened at Toronto Maple Leafs practice on Monday, when Ryan Reaves attempted to pass along some of his knowledge to Philippe Myers.
At six-foot-six and 213 lbs., Myers is a massive presence on the ice. That said, it's never too late to hone your craft, and Myers had no problems taking advice from Ryan Reaves on how to properly handle yourself in an NHL fight. Teammate Max Domi seemed to love it.
At one point in the fighting lesson, Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews jokingly jumped into the fray to have a few words with Ryan Reaves. After some smiles, Matthews skated away.
This is exactly the mindset that the Toronto Maple Leafs want heading into the 2024-25 season. Everyone focused on their roles with the team, but relaxed at the same time. The Leafs are also aware that their first opponent in the new season is the Montreal Canadiens. Tension between the two teams is likely still quite high after the injury to Patrik Laine in a preseason game, and the rough stuff that followed.
There is nothing better than a Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens matchup to get the blood pumping right at the start of the new season. Both teams are going to be trying to avoid any long-term injuries to players this early in the season, but sometimes the bad blood takes top priority.
