As the hockey world waits on a decision from the Leafs and Marner, rumours will continue to swirl about every scenario possible surrounding the perennial 90+ point forward.
The Leafs have not approached Marner about waiving his no-movement clause as of yet, but they have reportedly taken calls on him. According to The Fourth Period's Dave Pagnotta, the teams that are interested in the 27-year-old are the Vegas Golden Knights, Nashville Predators, Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars.
Marner had been connected to the Predators and Knights previously, with some loose association to Chicago, but to hear that Dallas is reportedly interested comes as a bit of a surprise given they have to fill 10 roster spots and have just $16M in cap space to do so.
Pagnotta not only revealed the teams interested in Marner, but he noted that the Leafs are officially shopping restricted free agent Timothy Liljegren. Liljegren is coming off of an up-and-down season that saw him skate in just 55 games and dealt with a high-ankle sprain suffered in November.
While he tied a career-high in points with 23, Liljegren was exposed on the defensive side of the puck more often than not when he was asked to play heavier minutes. It will be interesting to see how Liljegren's future plays out and if the Leafs will hold onto him as a safety net of sorts in case they strike out on one or more of their potential free agent targets.
Regardless of what happens with Marner and Liljegren, the Leafs' roster is set to look drastically different next season, but with the draft and free agency fast-approaching we will know sooner than later what their decisions are on both.
