Secondary scoring has been an issue for the Leafs this season and while they look to acquire a scorer, one Marlies forward is proving they have options internally.
Earlier this season, long-time Marlies forward Alex Steeves made some controversial comments about potentially leaving the Leafs' organization when his contract expires at the end of the year.
On the heels of saying he wants to remain a member of the Leafs organization, Steeves set another Marlies record by scoring his 95th career goal in a Marlies uniform, breaking Ryan Hamilton's record that was set in 2013.
Steeves has now scored a goal in each of his last 4 games and has 7 goals in his last 7 games, leaving many asking why the Leafs have not given him more of an opportunity.
The undrafted free agent signing can play both center and wing, which gives Craig Berube lineup flexibility. He can skate well and would clearly give the Leafs a shooting threat in the bottom-six, which they desperately need.
Steeves has been loyal to the Leafs organization and it would only be beneficial for the Leafs to return the favour and give him an opportunity where he plays more than fourth line minutes.
