As we enter September, players will slowly return to their teams and begin informal "Captain skates" ahead of training camp, which will begin as early as this week. That being said, some Leafs players are enjoying their last few days in their hometowns, with Easton Cowan sharing a collections of pictures to Instagram last night recapping his summer. One of the pictures features Cowan playing pool in his basement where a number of his jerseys are framed and hanging on the wall.
The most notable is his Maple Leafs jersey from the 2023 draft where the Leafs selected him 28th overall. In the photo, the number 23 on the arms can be seen. Matthew Knies noticed and had some fun with the 19-year-old, commenting on the post saying "Framed my Jersey".
It appears that a handful of young Leaf players and draft picks have developed close relationships off the ice, which can only bode well for the future.
The pair will be reunited at training camp in a few weeks as Knies looks to build on an up-and-down rookie season that was capped by a dominant performance in the first round against the Boston Bruins. Meanwhile, Cowan will look to make the jump to the NHL after dominating the OHL, winning the MVP and OHL Championship.
