Toronto Maple Leafs' Max Domi under some scrutiny after a recent social media post about controversial former teammate, Tony DeAngelo.

Max Domi definitely brought a refreshing energy to his hometown team last season. His pride in wearing the Maple Leaf crest is evident in both his play and his candid demeanor when dealing with the Toronto media. His seamless fit within the market and the organization led Domi to sign a team-friendly contract earlier this offseason, earning $3.75 million per season over the next four years.

Domi is no stranger to being a pest on the ice, but now he is facing some backlash following a recent Instagram story where he shared a heartfelt message about former teammate Tony DeAngelo, who recently signed a deal in the KHL.

DeAngelo's eight-year NHL career has been tainted by controversy, which has seemingly followed him to several different teams. The 28 year-old defenseman has faced significant scrutiny for various incidents, including being suspended in the OHL for allegedly using homophobic, racist, and sexist language, as well as for abusing officials during his time with the Arizona Coyotes. He was also released by the New York Rangers due to disruptive behavior, and allegations of racism have followed him throughout his career.

Domi and DeAngelo became friends while teammates with the Coyotes, but Domi's public endorsement of such a controversial figure has raised a few eyebrows. Not everyone buys in when it comes to players' off-ice activities, including on social media, but the ones that do pay attention have wondered why Domi would be so public with his support for someone who seemingly brings drama wherever he goes.

Once a productive player in the Ligue Nationale de hockey, DeAngelo is coming off a disappointing season with the Carolina Hurricanes, where he recorded only 11 points in 31 games. He did not play a full 82 game season, as he faced issues with being scratched and injury troubles.

Unable to secure an NHL contract, he will continue his playing career overseas, signing a one-year contract with SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL.
