Max Pacioretty has been around the block in the NHL, but his latest comments have confirmed just how hard his first Maple Leafs training camp really was.

Pacioretty has had an up-and-down training camp so far, beginning with a 3-point effort in his pre-season debut, demonstrating that he can still be a valuable contributor in the NHL. The Maple Leafs must soon decide his future with the club, as he aims to make a significant impact with the team.

The former Montreal Canadiens captain spoke highly of the current Maple Leafs squad on Saturday, ahead of the team's pre-season finale, highlighting the team's impressive group as they head into the 2024-25 season. According to Luke Fox on X, Pacioretty praised the Maple Leafs, stating:

''This is the hardest group I've ever been a part of.''

Certainly a surprising comment coming from Pacioretty, who is about to turn 36 next month and has been around the block during his NHL career.

As reported by Terry Koshan on X, despite Pacioretty's strong showing, he believes he can elevate his game even further in the upcoming pre-season game:

''It's time to get serious. Not to say that the other 5 games weren't serious, but it's time to start to feel good about your game, and not the points, the little details that make a team successful. You want to prove your identity.''

Pacioretty, who is coming off of a season with the Washington Capitals where he recorded 23 points in 47 games, aims to enhance his performance further on a Maple Leafs team that is in need of scoring depth on the wing.

The final step for Pacioretty, who is on a PTO agreement in Toronto, is to sign a standard player contract. All signs point to such a deal materializing, but at this point, it's uncertain as to what the length and cap hit of the deal will be -- though we're likely looking at a one-year "prove it" deal for the former multi-time 30-goal winger.
