There have been multiple reports surfacing in recent weeks from some very reputable sources suggesting that the Leafs have not yet approached Marner about the idea of potentially waiving his no-movement clause.
However, one member of Leafs Nation received a tip from an unnamed source who has suggested that the father of another player who shares an agent with Marner (Darren Ferris) has some information about Marner having submitted a 9-team list that he would be willing to waive his NMC for.
There was no mention of who the 9 teams involved in the rumour are, but TFP's David Pagnotta has already reported that if Marner does indeed go to market, the Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks and Vegas Golden Knights would all be interested.
Obviously, as with any unconfirmed tip, please take this one with a grain of salt. The rumour mill can be very difficult to interpret sometimes. It's challenging to ascertain what is good intel and what may not be based in reality.
In my mind, if Marner was truly willing to waive his no-movement clause, he'd probably have a very select few spots that he'd be willing to explore. I don't know that I fully believe he has 9 teams with which he'd be willing to play out the final year of his deal with and/or sign an extension with.
At any rate, with the news in Toronto being as quiet as it has, it's fun to hear something like this come up, as it does seem to jive with the narrative that changes are coming.
