The Canucks acquired Zadorov from the Calgary Flames in November for a 2024 fifth-round pick and 2024 third-round pick knowing that there was a strong chance they would only have him for what was remaining of the season. Zadorov is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and according to a report from Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre earlier this week, 'significant traction' had been made on an extension with the Canucks.
That was news to Zadorov's agent, Dan Milstein, who took to "X" a mere half-hour later and responded to MacIntyre's post saying it was "fake news..."
Another Canucks reporter, Rick Dhaliwal commented on the situation earlier on Thursday on his radio show "Donnie & Dhali".
In 54 games with the Canucks, Zadorov totalled five goals and 14 points to go along with 102 penalty minutes. He added four goals and eight points in 13 playoff contests and is expected to command north of $6M per season if he hits the open market. Should he hit the open market, you can guarantee the Leafs will be calling.
