Over the last three years, the former Maple Leaf has put up 28 goals and 45 points in 46 games for the Oilers in the playoffs.
Toronto's "Core four" of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and John Tavares have blended for a total of 34 goals and 85 points over a combined 95 playoff games over the last 3 years. Obviously, it's easy to see why fans are still so upset following Hyman's departure.
Going back to the 2020-21 season, Hyman's 33 points in 43 games made him too expensive for the Maple Leafs to afford, and he was let go for nothing as a free agent in another in a long line of Kyle Dubas' "own rental" examples.
Of course, Hyman's personal best 54-goal season is also a reason for the Maple Leafs to regret the decision to let him walk.
Losing players of his caliber is a by-product of four players taking up half the cap-space, and what Hyman could have done if he stayed in Toronto will forever be a what-if.
