Three years ago this month, former Ottawa Senator and current TSN analyst Marc Methot posted to Twitter that by March of this year, the Senators would be better than the Toronto Maple Leafs and "it wouldn't even be close".

Unfortunately for Methot, he is eating his words as the Senators are once again out of the playoff picture well before the trade deadline while the Leafs currently sit third in the Atlantic.

Methot was on TSN's OverDrive yesterday and was asked about the Leafs' deadline additions and his response was very surprising, given his obvious hatred for the team.

"I like the moves. They weren't blockbuster trades by any means. It wasn't the shiny toy that he wanted to go and grab.

I thought he addressed what he needed to address. He brought in a little more sandpaper and I thought they needed that."

Methot also went on to say that adding Joel Edmundson is more important than people think, even though his analytic numbers don't always suggest it. Methot pointed out that while players like Ryan Reaves are useful during the regular season, he won't have much of an impact in the playoffs, but someone like Edmundson, who can provide the same type of physical impact, but will play more, can make a difference in the post-season.

Considering how much Methot dislikes the Leafs, it was surprising to hear him pump the tired of GM Brad Treliving. However, those additions can only really be judged once the playoffs have concluded.
