The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Leafs Director of Player Personnel Wes Clark as their new Vice President of Player Personnel, allowing the draft guru to reunite with Dubas in Steel City.
Two weeks following the NHL Entry Draft, Wes Clark has departed the Leafs organization and his position of Director of Player Personnel to reunite with his former boss in Pittsburgh. Clark had spent the past six seasons, five of which were under Dubas, with the Maple Leafs holding various roles such as Director of Player Personnel (2023-24), Director of Amateur Scouting (2021-23), Assistant Director of Player Personnel (2018-23) and Player Evaluation Consultant (2014-16), but over the past six seasons has consistently been making the decisions on the draft floor.
Clark joins the Penguins and Dubas as they begin to restock their depleted prospect pool and prepare for the eventual retirement of Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang.
During his time with the Leafs, Clark had become known for raising more than a few eyebrows with some of his selections, including 2023 and 2024 first-round picks Easton Cowan and Ben Danford, as well as 2024 fourth-round pick Victor Johansson. Although, questions arise from some of his choices, he has built a very solid prospect pool in Toronto with a limited number of picks and will now look to do the same with the Penguins.
This one is going to sting for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
