The Toronto Maple Leafs were a busy team during the NHL trade deadline and they almost landed another big name. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs were holding discussions with the Arizona Coyotes regarding forward Conor Garland. Garland is having a great season in Arizona and we heard lots of speculation that he could be on the move at the deadline. He's currently got 10 goals and 21 assists in 42 games this season and will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights at the end of year. Friedman adds on the latest 31 Thoughts podcast that the Leafs were possibly looking at Garland as a backup plan if they can't sign Zach Hyman during the offseason. Garland would have definitely given the team even more fire power going into the playoffs and being the cap wizards they are would have found a way to add his $775k cap hit.
