The Toronto Maple Leafs played a tight game against the Montreal Canadiens last night that saw a very quiet first period followed by an explosion of goals in the second. The Leafs shut the game down in the third period and registered the very important regulation win against the division rivals. Forward William Nylander didn't participate much in the third period and instead rode the bench. That follows some criticism by mainstream media, especially the infamous Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun. Leafs' head coach Sheldon Keefe explained his reasoning behind the move. "I thought both tonight and last game he's had a lot of really good stretches where he's got good legs and he looks real dangerous, like he's ready to break out. I didn't like some of the things here today once we got the lead. As a team, I didn't think we did great things in the second period. But in the third period we really got it going the way we wanted to, and I didn't think Willy matched that."
Saturday's 13:55 of ice is the lowest he's seen all season.
