When the Toronto Maple Leafs dropped Game 7 to the Boston Bruins, it was abundantly clear that the organization was headed towards a major change this summer.
Most had speculated that the biggest changes would come on the ice, in the form of finally splitting up the Core 4. However, the biggest change this summer actually occurred behind the bench when Sheldon Keefe and most of his staff were let go in favour of the Leafs bringing in Craig Berube, Marc Savard and Lane Lambert. Mike Van Ryn will be the only Leafs assistant from Keefe's staff to return behind the bench this season.
Even though he is no longer with the Maple Leafs, Keefe hasn't forgotten where he came from, as the Brampton, Ontario native is set to take part in an upcoming event in Oakville called the "Elite Team Culture and Mental Performance Training Camp". Keefe will be speaking at the event virtually, via Zoom, to the attendees at Oakville Convention Centre.
Among the topics Keefe will be speaking about are his Calder Cup championship with the AHL's Toronto Marlies and his experience coaching the Maple Leafs, according to the event's website.
All things considered, Keefe's split with the Leafs was surprisingly amicable, with both Keefe and GM Brad Treliving being very complimentary of one another after Keefe was let go by the organization.
Keefe spent 5 seasons with the Leafs, compiling a 349-212-97 record in his first ever NHL coaching gig. His .665 points percentage is extremely impressive. The Devils are getting a good one.
