Sheldon Keefe Makes Unexpected Comment About Maple Leafs Goalies Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll

Anthony Stolarz has been one of the best free agent pickups this season and he came through again with yet another clutch performance last night against the New Jersey Devils.

New Jersey outshot the Toronto Maple Leafs 39-16 throughout the contest, 16-1 in the first period, and 27-6 through 40 minutes of play. In that time, Stolarz allowed just one goal, which came at the 7:16 mark of the second period, as he did everything in his power to keep his team in the game.

The Maple Leafs eventually tied things up midway through the third period, courtesy of a shorthanded tally from Pontus Holmberg before Auston Matthews won the game in overtime.

After the game, former Maple Leafs bench boss, Sheldon Keefe, had nothing but complimentary things to say about Stolarz and runningmate Joseph Woll, including the fact that they're currently the best goalie tandem in hockey.

Stolarz picked up his 9th win in 15 contests to improve to 9-5-2 on the season with 1 shutout, a 2.13 GAA, and a .928 SV%. He has been a big reason why the team is currently battling for first place in the Atlantic Division and has done everything in his power to brush aside all the question marks he faced entering the season.

Despite compiling a 16-7-2 record last year with the Florida Panthers as well as a 2.03 GAA and a .925 SV%, Stolarz entered the 2024-25 season with just 82 games of NHL experience spread across 7 seasons.

The Maple Leafs signed him to a 2-year deal worth just $5 million dollars dollars to solidify their tandem with Woll, and so far it's looking like the best bang for your buck as we enter the midway point of December.

Keefe and his Devils threw everything including the kitchen sink towards the New Jersey native, but he had almost all of the answers.

Look for both Leafs goaltenders to see action later this week with 3 games scheduled in a 4-day stretch.
