This morning we saw something we didn't expect as Frederik Andersen was missing from Maple Leafs' practice and Michael Hutchinson was between the pipes. It was unusual as head coach Sheldon Keefe said earlier this week he had Hutchinson locked in as Wednesday's starter and didn't feel it would be fair for Andersen to go back to back. Then last night's disaster happened and it seemed it changed everything. Speculation started to mount that Andersen would get the start in back to back games for the first time this season. Later Keefe revealed that it was Andersen himself that requested to start tonight. "When he's that adamant about it, we're not going to hold him back. We hate that we've put him in that situation, but we like the fact he's in the fight & wants to be there with his guys"
«Sometimes circumstances will come up where the fight of a player will dictate what you're going to do and you go against what your gut instinct tells you that you should do, and that's what we're doing here today»Keefe added that it goes against his gut instinct to start Andersen tonight and is concerned about over working the goalie, but couldn't deny Andersen's passion to start tonight.
