The free agent market is looking pretty thin at the moment, but there are still a few names that could make some sense as depth adds for the Leafs, and Daniel Sprong may be the most intriguing name among them. Adding Sprong would certainly help address a roster need for some depth scoring.
As per Jeff Veillette, here are the top-10 remaining UFAs:
Sprong spent last season with The Detroit Red Wings, producing 18 goals and adding 25 assists for a total of 43 points in 76 games played.
The Amsterdam native has shown that when he is afforded the right opportunity, he can contribute offensively as a depth option.
The Maple Leafs mostly focused only on adding depth to their back-end this off-season. However, an addition like Sprong would help lessen the loss of Tyler Bertuzzi signing with the Chicago Blackhawks, replacing potentially almost all of Bertuzzi's goal share contributions, if their numbers come close to what they were last season.
The 27 year old is coming off a deal that paid him 2M per season. If the Leafs can nab the reliable 40-50 point player at an even lower price point, it seems like a no-brainer.
