During the 3rd period of last night's 6-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers, Max Domi and Mattias Janmark were tangled up together behind the Leafs' goal and decided to drop the mitts and duke it out, with Domi appearing to be the aggressor.
As he often does at home games, Tie Domi was sitting in the stands, watching Max's game with an intense focus. Following his fight with Janmark, one fan leaned over and tapped Tie on the shoulder, as if to congratulate him on Max's fight win. Tie did not look impressed.
I think, at times, people get too wrapped up in wanting Max to be like his dad, when in actuality, Max is much less a fighter and much more an amazing playmaker. For any parent, the last thing you want to see your kid doing is putting themselves in a position to get hurt or to hurt someone else, so perhaps this was just Tie's parental instincts kicking in.
At any rate, the Leafs won a big game at home against a tough player contender, so I don't think Tie was too upset with the result, though it's probably safe to say that he's not nearly as bloodthirsty now as he was when he played the game. More than anything, I'm sure he just wants to watch his son to succeed and to avoid putting himself in dangerous positions. You can't fault any parent for that.
