Last night, just before the end of the 2nd period, three of the Leafs' top dogs were visibly frustrated with one another on the bench and seemingly disconnected, as Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander engaged in an intense heated exchange.
At one point, you can see William Nylander say something to Mitch Marner, who mere seconds later takes off his gloves and spikes them behind the bench in anger. As far as what was said, here's the line that had Marner so upset.
"Stop f***ing crying brothis isn't f***ing junior hockey."
As many fans are aware, Marner was an elite player in his junior hockey days and often reminisces about his time in London with the OHL's London Knights. Nylander's comments must have struck a nerve with Marner, but it doesn't mean he was wrong either.
The argument occurred shortly after Marner was taken down in front of the Bruins net, looking to the official for a penalty call that never came. It's likely that Marner was complaining about not getting the call when Nylander delivered the line that pushed him to the point of frustration.
The bottom line here is that this really isn't junior hockey. This is the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Marner has not been good enough. Good on Nylander for reminding Marner what's at stake here in the postseason - especially in a game that the Leafs were losing by a significant margin.
