Leafs reportedly cut Brandon Lisowsky

The Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to have made another roster cut, sending Brandon Lisowsky to the WHL, despite not having officially announced the move just yet.

In the late stages of training camp, the Maple Leafs are inching closer and closer to unveiling their opening night lineup to kick off the 2024-25 regular season.

The team has already announced a number of roster cuts, which has included names like Noah Chadwick, Ben Danford and Miroslav Holinka, who were each returned to their junior teams in Lethbridge, Oshawa and Edmonton over the last couple of weeks. Now, it appears as though Brandon Lisowsky is also headed back to his junior club, the Saskatoon Blades. Not only that, but Lisowsky was also named an alternate captain for the Blades.

Lisowsky was not offered an entry-level contract in Toronto this summer, and is currently an unrestricted free agent, who is free to sign with any team who comes knocking. Still, even with the options available to him, Lisowsky really appears to enjoy the Leafs' development system and seems to be amenable to working towards an eventual deal with the Leafs.

The diminutive sniper will have to rely on pure skill and scoring prowess to earn himself a deal with the Leafs, as he doesn't bring much to the table in terms of size or snarl.

There's no doubt that the Leafs have sent him back to Saskatoon with clear instructions as to what they'd like to see from him this season. Perhaps if Lisowsky can check off some of the important boxes, the Leafs will take notice and sign him to either an entry-level deal or an AHL contract at the end of his WHL season.
