Cap Friendly emerged in 2015 after the closing of its predecessor, CapGeek. CapGeek shut down following the passing of its creator Matthew Wuest. Wuest sadly passed following a battle with cancer in March of that year.
After nine years of supplying the NHL and hockey community with a wide-ranging collection of information, the website will become defunct following the first few days of free agency, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the Capitals and Cap Friendly agreed that they wanted the site to be operational for the draft and beginning of free agency with Friedman reporting the deal is expected to close on or shortly after July 5th.
Thankfully, fans will not be in the dark as free agency picks up as Puckpedia will be available and provides the same information without the 'Armchair GM' and ridiculously obnoxious hypothetical trades - for now at least.
