A couple of short weeks ago, Leafs GM Brad Treliving and head coach Sheldon Keefe addressed the team and essentially scolded them for not standing up for one another on the ice. The discussed was deemed necessary after Brad Marchand took the feet out from under Timothy Liljegren, leaving the young Swede with a significant injury.

Since that time, we haven't really seen the Leafs playing with the chip on their shoulder that we all thought would be there - until tonight. It all started when Vancouver Canucks forward and former Leafs prospect Dakota Joshua absolutely drilled David Kampf with a clean open ice hit.

Even though the hit was a clean one, 40-year-old Mark Giordano stepped up to the 27-year-old Joshua as a sign that he didn't like the hit. It didn't take long for Joshua to toss his gloves. Gio did the same and the two went to battle in a spirited tilt.

Joshua earned just 5 minutes for fighting on the play, while Giordano earned 5 minutes for fighting, a 2-minute instigator penalty and a 10-minute misconduct. Given the fact that Joshua was the one who dropped his gloves first, I'd say that this was probably the wrong call, but hey - we're already well aware of the fact that NHL referees officiate Leafs games a little bit differently.
