The young Maple Leafs defenseman has brought some fiesty play to the blueline and continues to show it in his pursuit to remain in the Leafs' lineup. What better way to prove your worth to your head coach than to get under the skin of the opposition and drop the gloves in hopes of sparking your team?
It all started when Adam Fantilli and Benoit had an exchange of words over a disagreement after the whistle and cross-checked each othe:.
It was obvious right from the get-go that the Blue Jackets didn't like Benoit targeting their rookie. On the ensuing play, Erik Gudbranson engaged with Benoit right off the draw and the two would drop the gloves in a brief tilt. After the fight, both players were sent to their respective locker rooms.
With Benoit playing steady defense and showing that he isn't afraid to challenge the opposing team and drop the gloves when the situation calls for it, he's making a strong case that he deserves to remain in the lineup.
