Fighting might be a dying breed in the NHL with less and less enforcers being rostered by clubs, but there's always a couple of fights throughout the season that truly remind us why it should never leave the game.

In the first few minutes of their afternoon matinee, Philadelphia Flyers enforcer Nicolas Deslauriers dropped the gloves with New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe in what could be easily classified as the fight of the year.

Rempe stands in at 6'7 and 240 pounds and had the size and reach advantage over Deslauriers, but both of them landed haymaker after haymaker before the grizzled veteran was handed the decision with the takedown late in the heavyweight tilt. The fight lasted around 45 seconds and is definitely must-see-TV.

The Flyers and Rangers have a historic rivalry that spans 318 regular season contests, but this dust-up occurred after a spirited pre-game conversation took place between the two at centre-ice.

For Rempe this was just his 4th game of the season but his 3rd fighting major and already his 27th penalty minute - 17 of those came in his last game against the New Jersey Devils after he was assessed a match penalty. For Deslauriers, this encounter was his 9th fighting major of the season.
