Superstar winger in hot water following dirty hit
Over the past week, there have been a number of dangerous hits along the boards in the NHL. Some have seen penalties called, others have seen no call and some have also seen suspensions. Last night, with just under 2 minutes to go in the second period between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, we saw another one of those dangerous hits.
The hit came from Bruins forward David Pastrnak as he and Rangers defenceman Ryan Lindgren were racing for a puck in the corner. Lindgren stopped up and poked the puck down the boards while turning his back to the play. Pastrnak followed through with the hit anyway, sending Lindgren face-first into the boards.
Lindgren would stay down for a few moments before getting up under his own power. While he received some repairs on the Rangers bench, Pastrnak received a five-minute major and game misconduct for the hit.
It is not yet known whether Pastrnak will have a hearing or not for the hit, but it is the third time in as many games that Lindgren has been on the receiving end of a big hit, although the first two were just good, clean hits. So maybe part of the onus is on the player here for always putting himself in a vulnerable position.
