Toronto's cornerstone winger and playmaking specialist Mitch Marner has missed the past two games with what was confirmed to be a high-ankle sprain. Fortunately, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldok Keefe confirmed on Friday that while Marner's injury is likely more than day-to-day at this point, he isn't expected to miss much more time.
Keefe stated that the goal is for Marner to not play on Saturday and to sit out for his third consecutive game. He will have a chance to rest his ankle for a few days before getting back to work next week and ramping up activities at practice in hopes of a return to action sooner than later.
With Marner being a catalyst in all zones and a player that Keefe uses in every situation, his absence is certainly troubling for a team that relies on him so much. Here's hoping that a return next week is in the cards.
