Valuations revealed for all 32 NHL teams and the Leafs are at the top of the list
Don't look now, but the Toronto Maple Leafs have overtaken the New York Rangers as the top team valuation in the NHL, according Sportico. In the latest valuation rankings, the Leafs sit atop the league with a $2.65B valuation, while the Rangers fall to #2 with a $2.45B valuation. The Montreal Canadiens round out the top 3 with a $2.27B valuation, while Chicago and Boston complete the top 5.
There are only 10 teams in 2023 who finished below $1B. Those teams are Nashville, Carolina, Anaheim, St. Louis, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Florida, Buffalo, Columbus and Arizona.
The Carolina Hurricanes made the biggest jump of any team over last year's numbers, reporting a 59% increase in 2023. The Florida Panthers were right behind them, reporting a 53% increase and the Columbus Blue Jackets are up 47%.
Obviously, the Arizona Coyotes are still at the bottom of the league, currently playing out of a University rink, but they are still reporting a 45% increase over last year as well.
Now, obviously, when you factor in operating budgets, there still may be some concerns regarding some of the struggling markets, but on the whole, the NHL appears to be doing very well, which bodes well for significant salary cap increases over the next few years.
