Don Cherry's family heartbroken after tragic announcement
Tragedy has unfortunately struck the famed Cherry family, with former Hockey Night in Canada icon Don Cherry losing his daughter far too young.
Per retired reporter Simon Dingley, Cynthia Margaret Cherry has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly this week at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga. She was just 67 years of age.
Dingley shared an obituary post on July 24th, though Cynthia had passed just over a week ago, on July 15th.
"Cynthia Margaret 'Cindy' Cherry passed away unexpectedly at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the age of 67.
She was dearly loved by her son Del (Caroline Lyczek), and his father Roger. Much loved daughter of Don and the late Rose. Dear sister of Tim (Ling), and aunt of Grace.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., (Hwy. 10, N of the QEW) on Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 2-6 PM. Private family Interment at Cataraqui Cemetery, Kingston.
In Cindy's memory, donations may be made to Don Cherry's Pet Rescue Foundation."
Cynthia, AKA "Cindy" was influential in helping to build her father's brand. Cherry, now 90 years of age, has remained active in the hockey scene with the launch of his "Grapevine" podcast back in 2019. His family has been heavily involved in this venture.
Our hearts break for Cherry and his family for the loss of a loved one. 67 is far too young to go and no parent ever wants to bury their child. Truly heartbreaking news.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Cherry family during this difficult time.
