Marek mysteriously disappeared from the 2024 NHL Entry Draft after the first day and was radio silent until the end of July when he released a statement confirming he had been let go by the parent company of Sportsnet, and owners of the Maple Leafs, Rogers.
No one knew why Marek was let go from Sportsnet and questioned whether '32 Thoughts' would continue without him, which it did, but in September, the reason behind Marek's removal from Sportsnet was revealed. Marek had reportedly been leaking draft picks to former NHL scout Mark Seidel during the first round of the 2024 draft.
Marek was a fan-favourite on his shows and broadcasts and many didn't understand why he was released over something like that, but with the NHL's deep dive into sports betting, leaking picks to someone outside of the NHL could certainly be viewed as a direct conflict of interest for the league and Sportsnet.
On Monday, Marek posted a video to his 'X' account revealing that he would be back, but no one expected him to make a second announcement this week. On Thursday, Marek dropped a lengthy video of him making a sandwhich and taking calls from various athletes including former WWE superstar and Leafs fan Adam 'Edge' Copeland before he revealed that he joined The Nation Network and Daily Faceoff with a new podcast.
His new podcast, "The Sheet," is set to debut on the network in December, Marek confirmed in a subsequent post. While it was a bitter-sweet and surprising end to his time at Sportsnet, fans have been elated that he will be back soon.
