Two Canadian teams working on high profile trade involving former 6th overall pick
Earlier this week, the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks made a deal that nobody saw coming, with Andrei Kuzmenko, a 1st round pick, two prospects and a conditional 4th round pick landing in Calgary in exchange for pending UFA Elias Lindholm. Now, it appears as though two other Canadian teams are coming together on a high profile trade.
Per TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens are close to completing a deal involving veteran center and former 6th overall draft pick Sean Monahan, who will be headed to Winnipeg for an unspecified return.
Monahan has enjoyed somewhat of a career revival in Montreal this season, having registered 13 goals and 35 points in 49 games for the Canadiens. The Jets have been banged up for a lot of the year and the injury to top center Mark Scheifele must have opened the Jets' eyes to what life is like with a thin center group.
Original reports from a few weeks back had suggested that Monahan could fetch the Habs a 1st round pick in return. We'll keep an eye out for the return once the trade call has gone through and report back on the full details of the trade here.
***Update, 11:12am - Canadiens to receive a 1st round pick from Winnipeg and another conditional draft pick***
