Everyone knows that Auston Matthews is a freak of nature. Scoring goals is the hardest thing to do in the National Hockey League, but Matthews does it seemingly at will. Not only that, but he's one of the league's premier two-way centers as well.

With a pair of goals against the New York Rangers last night, Matthews is now up to 25 goals on the season, holding down sole possession of the league lead in goals. What's more impressive is that he's leading the league in goals despite having played less games than both Brock Boeser and Nikita Kucherov, the two closest challengers in the Rocket Richard Trophy race.

Matthews is now on pace for an incredible 73 goals this season, which would smash his career best 60 goals, which he had posted during the 2021-22 season. 50 goals this season certainly seems like a foregone conclusion. He'll have a very good shot at reaching the 60-goal plateau for the 2nd time in 3 seasons this year and, if he can maintain his torrid pace, he does have an outside chance of hitting 70 goals, which seems almost unfathomable in today's NHL. No player has scored 70 or more goals since Alexander Mogilny back in 1992-93.

The two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner, and former Ted Lindsay Award winner and Hart Memorial Trophy winner is scoring at a 108-point pace so far this season, with 37 points in 28 games, which would be a new career best.

This kid is absolutely world class, not that you weren't already aware.
