Earlier today the Carolina Hurricanes released veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak from his professional tryout (PTO).

The oft-injured Hurricanes signed Halak to his PTO two weeks ago when former Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen was ruled out indefinitely with blood clotting issues.

Halak never made an appearance with Antti Raanta and Pyotr Kochetkov healthy and seemingly better options in between the pipes. Raanta is currently 5-2-0 with a .885 SV% and a 2.88 G.A.A, while Kochetkov is 1-4-0 with a .876 SV% and a 3.11 G.A.A.

The Hurricanes are hoping for better days ahead considering Raanta was 19-3-3 last season with a .910 SV% and a 2.23 G.A.A with 4 shutouts. In fact, in his first 2 seasons with the club, he posted a 34-8-7 record with a 2.34 G.A.A. and a .911 SV%. Kochetkov went 12-7-5 last season with 2.44 G.A.A, a .909 SV%, and recorded 4 shutouts as well.

Halak is a veteran of 17 years and has played for 7 different clubs, including the New York Rangers last season when he posted a 10-9-5 record with a 2.72 G.A.A and a .903 SV%. He is still a serviceable goaltender even at the ripe old age of 38 and has 581 games under his belt with 295 victories and a .915 SV% to go with a 2.50 G.A.A.
