When the Leafs packaged their first round pick along with Petr Mrazek to move the final two years of his contract out, there were plenty of unhappy campers in Leafs Nation. People hated the idea that the Leafs passed on a first round talent and opted for another 2nd round pick just to move Mrazek.

When the Leafs announced their 2nd round pick as Fraser Minten and revealed that they had him as their 15th ranked skater in the draft, it definitely peaked the interest of the fanbase - and after his first prospect camp and his first NHL training camp, it would appear as though Minten just might be a first round talent after all.

After starting season off with a bang, albeit a little late after he recovered from a wrist injury suffered during training camp, Minten found himself sitting at 4 points through 2 games. Well, last night, he sniped his 2nd tally of the year - this one, on the power play.

That bring's Minten's point total up to 5 points in 3 games. Considering the fact that he notched just 20 goals and 55 points in 67 games last season, he's on pace to crush those totals. It is worth noting that Minten did put up 16 points in 17 playoff games before being plucked by the Leafs in the second round, so the Buds must have really liked what they saw from Minten in the 2nd half of last year and during the Kamloops Blazers' postseason run.

Minten's current rate of scoring puts him on pace to exceed 90 points this season. Will he slow down? Probably, but it doesn't mean that we can't be excited about a hot start for the 18-year-old.
