Braeden Kressler put his body on the line during the Leafs-Habs Prospect Showcase, flattening a 6-foot-5 Canadiens prospect with a massive open ice hit.

The 2024 Prospect Showcase in Montreal has given Leafs prospects a good opportunity to showcase their wide-ranging skills for Toronto Marlies head coach, John Gruden. For prospect Braeden Kressler, the message he wanted to send to the Marlies coach was clear. Just because he's small, doesn't mean he isn't willing to be physical.

As previously mentioned, Kressler, an undrafted free agent signee in Toronto, stands just 5'9 and weighs in at 174 lbs. However, when he lined up 6'5 Tyler Thorpe and decimated him in the Canadiens' defensive zone, it not only dropped Thorpe to the ice in a heap, it also dropped the jaws of everyone who witnessed the hit.

Kressler will not be competing for a job with the Maple Leafs, but he is certainly auditioning for a role with the Marlies. Something tells me that his goal to open the scoring for the Leafs in today's Showcase, combined with his bone-jarring hit on Thorpe, Gruden probably took notice.
