At the time he was traded out of Boston, many people wondered why he Bruins gave up on him as a 21-year-old highly skilled player. Now we have some clarification why as a video from the days leading up to the trade has surfaced from inside the Bruins "war room". At the end of the season, Bruins' management held their meetings about free agency where then Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli was wanting to sign Nathan Horton or a player for the same value. Chiarelli was seen saying that if they signed Horton or a player to the same dollar value contract, they would have to move out a player and he wanted to move Seguin.
The consensus around the room at the time was that Seguin, while he had a high level of skill, did not fit the mold of a Bruins player. He was not physical enough, did not want to go into the corners or be more physical. As Cam Neely said at the time, the Bruins had not seen enough development or improvement in those areas and believed Seguin was well behind his development in those areas. Not only that, but the Bruins were not impressed with him immaturity. "Him having a good time occasionally, and it being in the media, this was something that the Bruins thought should never happen," said Paul Seguin according to the Toronto Star. "Even if it happened once or twice or three times, the Bruins didn't like this happening even once."

On July 4, 2013 the Bruins sent Seguin along with Rich Peverley and Ryan Button to the Stars for Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser, Loui Eriksson and Joe Morrow. Of that trade, the Bruins have nothing left to show for it, while Seguin has taken the Stars to the cup final and has been one of the Stars' top players since he arrived. It is just another example of why you can't give up on 20-something year-old prospects because they haven't developed as quickly as they are expected to.
