During an appearance on Leafs Morning Take approximately a week ago, Lucic spoke of the honour of playing for an original six franchise and expressed an interest in the Leafs as an organization whom he might like to play for. Well, as fate would have it, he and his agent have already been given clearance from the Calgary Flames to begin approaching other teams to gauge the interest in a potential deal before July 1st, which means that when noon ET hits on July 1st, Lucic may very well be one of the first names off the board.
While his best days are certainly behind him, Lucic can still play and would have use to many teams within their bottom six, given his particular skill set. Lucic is one of the last true enforcers out there and when he's out there patrolling the ice, players are a lot less likely to take liberties on his team's star players.
Will we see Lucic in a Leafs sweater come July 1st? If he's willing to sign for close to the league minimum, I'd imagine that Brad Treliving will at least consider it - even if Lucic isn't expected to be an every night fixture in the lineup. We all know of the pre-existing history there between Treliving and Lucic, after all.
