During the 2023-24 Stanley Cup Playoffs, William Nylander and Mitch Marner got into a heated altercation on the bench and now we finally know what Nylander said to get Marner so upset.

When the Toronto Maple Leafs drew the Boston Bruins in Round 1 of the playoffs, there was a lot of belief around the NHL that the Leafs would finally get past Boston, who was vastly inferior on paper in the series. Even David Pastrnak himself admitted to the Leafs having a better team at one point this summer. However, when the dust settled, it was the Bruins who skated away victorious after a razor-close Game 7, which ended in dramatic fashion in overtime.

Rewinding the tape a bit, in Game 4, there was a moment where William Nylander and Mitch Marner had a heated exchange on the bench, which resulted in Marner spiking his gloves in anger. At the time, some believe that Nylander made a comment about junior hockey, but the truth about what he said was far more frustrating for Marner.

William Nylander has finally publicly addressed what he said to Mitch Marner during a profanity-laced rant on the bench during Game 4 against Boston. He was actually mic'd up for the game, as a part of the Amazon Prime "FaceOff" series, which made it very easy to determine what the actual quote was.

"F-----' shoot it. Stop f-----' cryin', bro. This is the f-----' issue. You guys b---- about s---. Let's f-----' go!"

Thankfully, there is no lasting friction from the ordeal in the locker room. Nylander has confirmed that anything said on the bench or during a game is not motivated by anger, but by wanting to be on the same page with everyone. This is understood by everyone else in the locker room as well.

The Leafs are hoping for a much better fate in 2024-25, with a number of key additions, headlined by elite defensive defenseman Chris Tanev, who has really blown the coaching staff's expectations away with his play in training camp. Hopefully, with the Leafs finally having addressed their blueline issues, it will lead to a more successful year ahead.
