On a day where the Toronto Maple Leafs announced a staggering 21 roster cuts as they look to be getting closer to finalizing their NHL roster for the 2024-25 season, they have also announced that big-bodied right-shot defenseman Rhett Parsons has signed a contract with the AHL's Toronto Marlies
Parsons came to Maple Leafs training camp as a free agent invitee after completing his 4th season with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL. He appeared in the 2024 Prospect Showcase in Montreal, and worked hard throughout Maple Leafs training camp, where he skated in Group C, primarily comprised of non-roster players and young prospects who had next to no shot of cracking the NHL roster this season.
The 21-year-old defenseman appeared in 68 games for the Tigers this past season, producing 6 goals and 17 points, while also racking up 105 penalty minutes. The hard-hitting blueliner possesses the skill set that Brad Treliving salivates over, as a big, lengthy defenseman with some snarl to his game.
At this point, it's unclear whether Parsons will land in the AHL or the ECHL, with the Maple Leafs' new East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones. Regardless of where he plays, you can bank on Parsons giving his all every single night, just as he showed the organization during a grueling training camp over the past few weeks.
