Playing their third game in four days and second of a back-to-back, the Leafs made a number of lineup changes against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday. The most notable absence was that of blueliner T.J. Brodie, who was not even on the ice for the warmups.

Brodie was replaced in the lineup by Conor Timmins, who continued to pile up points for the Buds, registering his first NHL goal and adding an assist while playing in place of Brodie. Following the game, Sheldon Keefe provided a bit of an update on Brodie, saying that Brodie is "banged up" and should be considered day-to-day. The hope is that the extra day off will help him be ready for Wednesday.

The Leafs have played lengthy stints without each of Brodie, Jake Muzzin and Morgan Rielly this season, so if Brodie does indeed require some additional time off, the Buds have already shown that they can keep the wheels turning even while missing significant pieces in the lineup.

The emergence of Timmins as a legitimate NHL defenseman is something that I'm not entirely sure the Leafs were expecting when they acquired him - at least not this soon. At the time of the acquisition, Timmins was viewed as a bit of a project for the Leafs. Well, needless to say, he's been a pleasant surprise and has given the Buds some additional flexibility.
